I have a lot of iron content in my water...high chlorine also, who knows what else. Is there some filtering system that I can use to take it straight from the tap to the tank - with an inline filtering system to bring the temp up to par? What about 2 cannister water filters, one with a charcoal system and one with the white stuff to polish the water? BTW, I live in China and NOBODY drinks the water here unless they boil it first. Some people do not even use the tap water to brush their teeth.
wow... I would invest in an RO filter if i were you.
An RO filter, and a large accumulator tank to store it in, like a 30 gallon tank for your situation. then you could use that water for anything.... even drinking
if the water is truly that bad I wouldnt even bother with something like a brita, or undersink carbon etc.
Check out the link in my sig, I own one of their units, and I must say, its a darn fine system for the price, especially considering whats included.
Things such as a shut-off valve, and a combination flow restrictor/flush valve.
I have seen $700 units that dont offer those 2 parts (albeit they are cheap

) and those are 2 things that I consider to be an important part of an RO units
efficient operation.
I myself will also be using a booster pump to boost the water pressure going into the RO unit to 120 PSI. this should waste less water.
I would also like to add that if your worried about bacteria and virii in your water supply, a UV sterilizer might not be a bad investment either.
I have gone over the top, and purchased one to pre-sterilize the water being fed into my RO unit.
The RO membrane WILL filter out bacteria and virii, but there is a chance that they will grow
through the membrane itself given time, thus contaminating your "pure" water.
there are some conditions which must be met for an RO unit to produce its rated daily output.
water temp of 77F @ 75 PSI with a TDS <500ppm.
my system is going to be nuts.... I want to see if i can produce MORE than my rated amount
