i have a 10 gal aquarium with brackish water, black gravel, 3 cool jungle ruins decor that fish can swim around and under, and some realistic plastic plants.
iv'e had my heart set on getting an fig-8 puffer, do you guys agree or do you think i should get some other fish that would go better in this tank. the thing is ive been waiting so long for the fig-8 i ordered to come in the shop, and then when i went to get, it was dead, i tried another time, but some fool sold the fish to someone else.....:headshake2:
so after all this waiting i want to make sure that i pick the right fish. i am open to any sigestions, thank you

:) JAKE:)

A single F8 is best kept in a 15g. How do you plan on cycling the tank?

its been cycling for the past 5 weeks, ive had the filter running, heater going, and put in water from my 75 gallon. and pufferpunk im a member of the puffer fourm, whats with that red striped toad fish or something, ive never seen that befor?

but anyway ive herd many things on the min size for fig-8s, and i personaly think it will be fine in a 10 gal

Your tank is not cycled. Running a tank with used tank water will in no way cycle it. You need bacteria from surfaces of an established tank (usually substrate) & you need to add ammonia to feed it until there is enough to support a puffer. Read the info on cycling at TPF, in the Library. The min tank recomendation for a F8 is 15g. Your tank, your fish.

ok.......well, getting back on to my topic, what do you guys think of the Knight Goby, are they timid or active, do they need company, are they atractive?

If you're insisting on keeping the F8 in a 10g, then certainly no tank mates in there. In answer to your Q though, they can handle themsdelves with F8s, in a larger tank. 1 F8 to a 15g--w/tank mates, you'd need even an even larger tank.

I totally agree. Adding old tank water into a new tank is just that... adding dirty water. Using a handful of gravel to seed your bio filter will work, as will using old filter media from an established tank.

But there's still more to cycling than that. If that's all you did & then added fish, there wouldn't be enough bacteria from that handful of gravel to support a fish. If you did that & let the tank run for a few days/weeks, that bacteria would die off, without any ammonia to feed it.

The quickest way to "instant cycle" a tank is by using Bio-Spira (no other product will do!).

ok i put some gravel from my 75 in there, and i know that it is overstocked if i have a fig-8 and a goby, but i just was wondering if a knight goby would be an interesting single fish in my 10?

A pair would be even better. Very interesting spawing displays & easy to breed.
