They'll get waaaaay too big for your tank, but if you "think" they won't get stunted and die, go ahead...
You scared me off sand, unless having around 16-20 corys and 5 kuhlis will keep it stirred up...
that's why i traded the pleco, the tilapia, and a few others in!
sand is good for aquarium bottoms. what i think happened is i bought sand that wasnt pre-washed to get rid of the dust. thats why earlier pics looked like some sort of sandstorm was happening in the tank! one of the little bits no one says in the forums when they say play sand is great for aqauriums.
the type of play sand, washed or not, is just as important as the color!
ummm, keeping those fish would have compounded the problems, as the dust would have never settled! in fact, when the water column did clear one day, everything was covered in a fine layer of dusty sand- it looked weird! reminded me of "the mummy" movies!
awww man it was bad! whenever any of the fish moved, a mini sand storm ensued, i felt bad for them, so thats why i tore the tank down and got rid of it all one morning. if i ever do sand again ill buy the stuff at the pet store for a sure-fire solution- no errors!
anyway, my next diy project will be to build diy co2 and a proper varnished tank stand. just gotta put the money together for the later but the diy i might get to this weekend!
