Anyone got any websites that show the effects on aquariums on your electricity bill?

I mean it can't be cheap lol... especially for anything 50gals and over

Depends on exactly what kind of aquarium you are running. Of course, saltwater is more expensive to run and maintain then a freshwater set up. The initial cost of setting up the aquarium and getting it the way you want it to look with fish, plants and decorations is the bulk of the money involved in this. Saltwater fish and corals as well as live rock will run you more then just about anything for freshwater. As far as the electric bill goes to run say a freshwater set up is really not much . I have eight aquariums running in my home with five of them being on the larger side and one of them is a 60 gallon saltwater reef, and to tell you the truth I have not seen any significant increases in my electric bill. Honestly, running the air conditioning and the electric stove will make the meter run more then anything I am running on my aquariums.

Here's a calculator, but be careful with it. I wouldn't reccomend entering the site unless you have some virus software, not sure if it was coincidence or not but as soon as I entered the site my virus software popped up and said it detected and stopped a trojan horse?

For most folks, no more than a couple of extra lights left on 24/7.

About 10 a month, 3 tanks, heaters,lights,air pumps,filters ......:)

i wish that website worked for me.

Just set a couple more tanks up within the passed 2 months, and the roommates complained that the bill went up a lot.

problem is that electricity in the town has gone up 10-15% this passed month, so its not easy caluculating how much my tanks have added.

yeah part of it is that I am curious of how much the 125gal tank in our apartment is costing me (its not mine)

and the other part is that my dad is complaining about the electric bill back home and i was curious
