Convict Babies

My cons love caves made out of horizontal slabs. Put lighting crates on the bottom of the tank, then the rocks, then the substrate. The lighting crate stops the cons from undermining the rocks and making them fall over. Believe me they can do it.

Sad Convict News

Hi All,

After putting the slate in my tank today my female is dyeing. She is swimming on her side and then upside down, lying flat on her side on the bottom of the tank. I am so bummed. Do you think the slate I put in the tank did something to kill her? Now what will happen to my male convict, should I put another female in with him? I don't know what to do.
Please help !!!

she may have just eaten all the babies. my 2nd batch of fry all disappeared when i separated the male from the female. (the male seemed to be beating up the female and maybe for a good reason?) well anyhow the fry all disappeared. also... depending on the size of your tank that could have an effect on their actions.

As for your female dying.. i'm not sure how i'd revive her from the upside down swimming part.. but from my own experience they are hard to pair up again with another female, if it's even possible to do. good luck.

Awwww I am so sorry your fish is dyng, could it be the fater ran her to death? they can be mean at times. As for the babies, mine always laid in a pot and I had it set so I could see inside. she laid often and I had tons of babys, they love pots and caves!!!

dont let them breed unless you have the space but im lucky my convicts usually eat the the babies and i feed the rest to my albino channel cat
