Yes - they can get up to about 22 inches if fed well and kept in a large enough tank.

My BGK has over doubled in size since I got him Feb. of this year.
Not only is he getting longer, but he is definiately filling out as well.

You also have to realize that these guys will eat when they are hungry. If they are not fed regularly, they will eat anything that fits into their mouths. That includes pieces of other fish.

He is the coolist fish I have ever owned or seen for that matter. He knows me now and will come to the side of the tank when I come close.

I put in a 'ghost house' (clear plastic tube) for him when I first brought him home - he would not go near it. He took up residence in one of my tank decorations that is supposed to look like an old tree root. He is outgrowing that space so last week I bought a plastic molded decoration that looks like a hollow log - lots of ways into and out of it. He was in it before I finished arranging the tank and only comes out for food. The good thing is that when I put it in the tank - I faced it toward the front - I can see him anytime I want without disturbing him.

They are very cool - just remember that to them "lunch is more important than friends".

I forgot one other important item. If you have a BGK and Buenos Aires Tetras in the same tank - is it IMPOSSIBLE to overfeed unless you really, really work at it.
The only downside is that anyone who is slow to eat - starves!
