Does anyone include ich tx as part of their QT?

Starrider. If your treating for parasites and ich, what are you expecting to creep up 4-6 weeks later? Does your QT have anything besides water & glass?

actually I posted I don't treat for ich.

if you have ever dealt with camillanus or capillaria ..you will find that the parasite in a a healthy fish can exist and the fish not exhibit signs of the infestation.
the problem with these two..is they are prevalent in many Angel fish and other cichlids shipped from breeders. stress will allow the parasite to gain the upper hand and eventually can kill the fish if not treated.

I treat for the parasite and keep the fish in qt for atleast 4-6 weeks.. read treatment as treat for 48 hours change at least 25% water add carbon..retreat in 3-4 weeks.

with ich..I prefer to watch the fish during qt since the ich will present itself during the qt period.

did that help clear it up?

Star rider. If you are Qt your fish 4-6 weeks, I guess there is no need to treat (except your warm water) for ich. I have a community tank of hardy fish waiting for a gourami replacement. I am just looking to keep the pearl gourami in QT 2 weeks tops. I know some members keep their fish in QT 3-4 weeks. Also, you didn't answer my question regarding QT conditions, which I am very curious about! Will PM prn. Thanks!

this is an interesting thread. i've never even considered qt fish before introducing them into their new tanks....interesting idea. although i will say that many lfs have tanks with ich in them somewhere in the store, it is usually visible in that tank. one could argue that it is only visible during a certain stage and therefore could be present without one being able to see it, but i have been doing this hobby for 10 plus years now and have never introduced ich into any of my tanks via a new fish and i do not qt prior to tank integration. i think it is superfluous. it's like a doctor giving you an antibiotic shot to treat strepthroat when you have no symptoms. you ask your doctor "why are you doing that?" and he says, "there's people you've been near that have strep." if you follow that logic, you might as well let the doctor go ahead and treat you for every communicable illlness/disease that exists because you've been around people and people have those illnesses/diseases.:headshake2:

Although some treat for disease prophylactically, I think most (?) people just observe for disease. Much like transporting a pet to another country that requires QT.
