I used two 6500k 10 watt bulbs (2wpg) from Walmart..You could probably use the 13w bulbs (about 2.5wpg) instead of the 10w I used. I was afraid they would be a tight fit but after...

    for you mathmaticians

L x W x H then divide by 231 That is the standard size for a 20 gallon long tank ...but doing the math comes out to 18.7 gallons which takes in account for the thickness of the glass

    paint

Krylon works great...I used a semi-flat finish and it looks real good. The first coat doest go on real good but just let it dry and keep putting a few coats on and it will start going on better. It usually takes atleast 3-4 light coats to get a good solid coverage...

You can also get slate floor tiles form Home Depot or Lowes pretty cheap...they come in several different sizes ( 4",6",8" upto around 12" to 16")...You can use then as they are or you can take them and break them to the size you need. If you break them be sure to chip off any really sharp edges...

    tank on floor

Using just the 1" piece of foam should do it ...unless there are some major high spots ...If just small little imperfections in the floor you should be fine. Just be sure to check the level of the tank as some basement floors are poured with a slight slope to help water drainage.

    Bulb size question

It should work with lower wattage bulbs just fine.... Think of it like any other light in your house...You can use whatever lightbulb in your fixtures around the house aslong as you dont use over the max that the sticker says on it.

    places to find tank parts/stands?

Might be hard finding a stand that size..... but one could be built probably for less than one would cost if you or someone you now are handy with woodworking.
