bit of an update.... it's been a week and he's not dead, but he's still swimming rather strangely. it's almost as if one side of him isn't functioning properly. if he were a person i would think something neurological or maybe just a broken limb, but I don't know A. if a fish can have a stroke...

I would suggest a black out. Do a large water change and then completely cover the tank so that absolutely no light gets in. Wait 72-96hrs. Leave the tank alone (no feeding, no checking in...fish will be fine for 3-4 days). When you open the tank back up the algae should be dead (hopefully)...

for some reason i have to doubt it...just like you can't put any old plants under water. some (most) terrestrial plants will die once submerged. so unless the moss is aquatic I'd expect it'd die too. but i might be wrong...not a botanist :headshake2:

is 5500 ok? that makes life easier. the bulbs I have now are 6500 and I couldn't remember exactly what range I needed so I was looking for ones with the same K rating. Hmm....still leaves the question. 18W or 28w?

18W, 20W, 26W, or 30W (i.e. 2x9W, 2x10W....etc) These seem to be my best options in this range. I don't know what I'll find at the store, but these seem to be the most likely options that will have the right K rating. I just want to have an idea of what would be best, since I may get stuck...

Zucchini and cucumber, like most have said, with an algae wafer every few days. I boil the vegetables and then run them under cold water, only because it gets them to sink (don't know why, but it does).

don't run carbon in your filter unless you need to remove medication or some toxin or something like that.
