So I went away for a couple days and I came back to find one of my neons acting rather oddly.

He can't seem to swim properly. He seems to be constantly listing to one side (he was actually doing spirals at one point). Today his swimming seems a bit better, but his coloration seems off. It looks as if he's losing his color.

None of the other fish in the tank are acting oddly. I'm wondering if he might be sick or if he could have gotten injured some how or maybe he's just getting old (which I have to doubt since I've only had the group of them for about 6 months).

Tank conditions are fine. Ammonia and Nitrites are 0, Nitrates at about 15ppm. Nothing has changed in the tank.

any ideas? let me know what other information I need to provide.

Tank size is the same. Inhabitants are the same minus 1 neon and the apple snail.

He is eating fine (was having trouble actually getting the food yesterday, but since his swimming has gotten better he can eat). I don't know about poo'ing...probably. Neons don't have the same long-poo tendrils that my plecos have ;)

bit of an update....

it's been a week and he's not dead, but he's still swimming rather strangely. it's almost as if one side of him isn't functioning properly. if he were a person i would think something neurological or maybe just a broken limb, but I don't know A. if a fish can have a stroke or something of that nature and B. how he would damage his fin.

but yeah, he's not dead. still eating properly. just swimming a bit lopsided.

any ideas?
