test daily for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites (well maybe not nitrates until the ammonia has reached zero. You must daily so you know what's going on in the tank. Once the ammonia and nitrites reach zero, you're cycled. Some suggest a 20% water change at this point, some say not necessary...

Use RO water and you shouldn't need prime. My LFS has it for $0.25 a gallon. It's much better for the tank and reasonable for small tankers like us.

If you have uncured live rock, you won't need ammonia. Die off will provide all you need.

The new Eye of Ra Zoas are already quite happy. I also picked up a purple mushroom for $5.

I research the fish on liveaquaria (and a few other places), then I would buy from saltwaterfish.com No, you don't get to see them, but they are supposed to be parasite free, healthy specimens. You can also get a few aquacultured (tank raised) fish at both those websites.

Going to pick up some Eye of Ra Zoanthids tomorrow and a patch of star polyps.

One thing to do is determine which store brand products are acceptable to you and get those whenever possible. We buy the store brand apple jacks because we can't taste the difference, but the store brand pop tarts are horrid. Still, it saves us $5-$10 bucks each week.

We use to do that, but we don't have the storage for that kind of stuff anymore. But yeah, 6 months without having to buy toilet paper is cool.

Keep in mind that this is groceries. Once every other month, you'll need toilet paper and paper towels and shampoo and all those other things. If they are run out at once, that's a pretty hefty addition to groceries.

If there's critters you want to keep, then the you have to do water changes to keep the ammonia less than 1. Anyway, look up nano marine fish for suggested fish species. Keep in mind that some of the smaller carnivores need to be fed multiple times per day.

I've never done FOWLR so, I don't know about the light for that. However, if you want to add any corals, then no, your light isn't sufficient. If all you want is low light corals, then a power compact fixture would do fine. The 20 long is fairly shallow right? However, as I'm finding out...
