What would you do to this tank?

Here is a current photo! I got rid of the yellow damsel so that middle thingy is coming out.

That is not live rock, its lava rock that I seriously doubt has any bacteria. Stop where you are and take a couple of days (at least) to get a grasp on the basics of cycling a tank. Stop buying fish, you and your tank are not ready for them. Not meant to be harsh, just a firm push in the right direction.
 
I am sorry to throw more confusion at you, but I totally disagree with adding dead rock and hoping it seeds well over time. From my experience one of the greatest joys of building a tank is discovering all the amazing things that pop out of live rock.

I go so far as trading live rock for live rock with my LFS, in the hope of hitchhikers. I would also add a variety of different live rock over time from different sources if you LFS's around you.

If I started over, I wouldn't add fish 6 months, just because I loved watching the explosion of life in my tank from the live rock I added.

This of course is all just my opinion and admittedly from a live rock addict.
 
All fish are gone. As are plants. And that thing in the middle. Buying rock this week.
 
Alright, this is all a bit confusing. After googling how to cycle a saltwater tank. Basically, I put my 20 pounds of live rock(as few suggestion) in and wait about a month for the bacteria to build up? And while doing that, making sure that the water quality is still good and whatnot.

Do I have the basic jist of it?
 
test daily for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites (well maybe not nitrates until the ammonia has reached zero.

You must daily so you know what's going on in the tank. Once the ammonia and nitrites reach zero, you're cycled. Some suggest a 20% water change at this point, some say not necessary.

So this will be a reef?
