    Trim Dwarf Hairgrass Before Planting?

I've certainly trimmed it in the past with no ill effects. In my experience, it took a long time to get established and start to grow, although I probably didn't provide it with very good conditions.

    Laterite, bentonite...subtrate questions

Hi all, I know the use of laterite kitty litter has been debated in the past. I looked at some brands at the supermarket today, and a couple of them said they used bentonite clay. Maybe that's what they use here in Australia. Does anyone have experience with bentonite as a substrate, who can...

    Ludwigia sediodes

Well I have no idea. From the photos, I would guess it's a bit ugly from underwater. Maybe you should put in a pond for it! (Or a big pot.)

Can my fish take the heat???

BandiCat, I'm in Sydney with no AC, and we had some very hot weather here last summer. I don't think my tank temps got quite as high as yours, but pretty close, and the fish came through just fine. Do yours look stressed?

    HELP!

^ Agree, that is the most likely cause. The only other thing that occurs to me is that there was some other residue on the tank which was not washed away; but I would say the soap is the culprit.

    Ludwigia sediodes

It's a really attractive plant from the top, but that's probably not the view you'll be getting of it.

    I need help

Not to confuse the issue, but I believe white patches are also symptomatic of some bacterial infections. http://badmanstropicalfish.com/fish_palace/tropicalfish_disease_identification.html I'm not claiming to know one way or the other, but I wouldn't assume it's fungal based on the info you've...

    HELP!

Sounds like the fish were put in the same day the tank was set up, so it couldn't have cycled; but as Zigman says, that wouldn't kill them in three hours.

    Neons are pigs

Has anyone had fish eat so much that they died? The first time i gave my glowlight tetras blackworms, they were so huge, I really thought they might explode.

for those considering a cannister filter...

Would definitely not recommend red Skittles in any tank setup - very bad for water quality.

IME, do take a while to settle in and start eating well, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Protect the polar bears from the oil dudes!

Yep, we 'forgien' people have trouble with spelling. But then again, some of us think that that the world is one inter-connected (and vulnerable) system; and so voting rights in the USA are not the only relevant factor in who has a stake in the question.

    Is it a boy?

Thanks dixienut. From the pictures I've found, it looks too big to be the anal opening or egg tube. Maybe someone else will have an opinion.

    Is it a boy?

Okay, so you can see the curled up antenna, and the, and the oval structure to the left of that (which is speckled, I think) - that is what I thought might be the penis sheath. So what is it? :help:
