I would like to hear more about this issue; my cherry shrimp are in a small tank with a tight-fitting lid, so there is no danger; but do they really climb out of the water? - none of mine have shown any interest in doing it!

In the end, we can only use our own observations and our own judgement to decide what to do. There are plenty of myths out there - people will say, for example 'You must add salt to your tank'; 'You must correct pH with chemicals.' Possibly the best way to dispel these myths is to ignore them...

Probably safest and easiest to just run both filters on the new tank, the old filter with its own media, to minimise disruption to the bacteria colony. The new filter will develop its own population of bacteria over time. This is doubly true if you mean you are going to run both filters...

I don't get it - replacing glass with acrylic? Isn't acrylic going to cast a shadow too? - especially when it starts to get scratched up.

This is interesting, but it should probably be pointed out that it is not an announcement by the USDA/APHIS; it is only a report by an individual about a conversation with another individual who works for the USDA/APHIS giving her opinion of what may/will happen at some point in the future.
