    Hemichromis lifalili: The gamble.

Update #1 Well, fished out the unpaired lilifalis. Went to the store, brought back some more plants. Add plants to the tank. Put a movie on. 2 hours later: eggs. The remaining pair were the first two to lose their black spot at the tail. That was fast...

    Hemichromis lifalili: The gamble.

I have a 50 gal that had until recently a pair of Pelvicachromis taeniatus, with some harlequin rasboras, gold tetras, glowlight tetras and 3 angel. I don't know why I got angels , I find them boring, but anyway, the male taeniatus died, so I went to the store to see what they had. They had...

    Breeding my Apisto. Cacatuoides

You could also add some more clay pots... I've had breeding pairs getting pretty tense during mating time so the more hiding places the better. Try to maze it up a bit. Cichlids... Better safe than sorry in a 10 gal.

    Breeding my Apisto. Cacatuoides

Unless I am mistaken, and please tell me if I am, running your tank empty like that for a week means a dead or dying cycle. If you want to keep your sponge filter's colony alive, you'd need some fish in there. I did that a couple of times (starting a tank using a filter that ran in an...

Any cichlids other then rams 4 a 10 gal planted

If you decide to go through with this, be prepared. Water quality will be difficult to maintain. Otos are not really good dither fish, so you would need to add something in there to make the fish less shy. Apistos will leave most tiny tetras alone, but it will be a squeeze in there for them...

    Apistos and rams

What you have fits for sure. I think I read somewhere that black skirt tetras are from the same region. But those are a bit beefy so it limits the size of the school . Not that the rams would mind, mine don't get stressed by other fish like my male dwarf rainbows who are pretty big and fast...

    Apistos and rams

If you have 2 BR breeding pairs, there would no territory left for the apistos. Or it would be a chronically tense and stressful tank.

    Bolivian Rams Have Spawned-Pics

I've had fry swimming in my 55 gal community tank. They spawn less than a week after the last fry has been eaten so far. Nice pics.

    Tankmates for apistogramma cacatuoides?

Good choices. I would have suggested gold or rummy nose tetras.

New to cichlids- got a krib!

I understand your point about about the tank being long enough, but there is not enough volume in there for a full grown krib. It is also the footprint of a 20 high if I am not mistaken. Kribs get a little tight in there, I've tried in the past. They get aggressive with each other. As your...

what cichlid could go in a 20 gallon?

what cichlid could go in a 20 gallon?

I tried a few times the apistos in 20 gal and it is a frustrating endeavor. Even the easy convict or krib pairs might turn on each other in such small settings. I think 20 gal long is the minimum for apistos. I never tried the shell dwellers. Sounds pretty cool. What do you put as...

    Hello

Hello, I've been doing this for a few years now, it sadly started with a 10 gal and a seller at a store that convinced me that a harem of Cockatoo apistos with 10 Glowlight tetras. That tank produced fry within a month, and then scared to mess up the extremely tense atmosphere of the tank, I...
