Ironing out details for new build!

Good idea, but stick with the 70watt unit, with CO2 anything will basically grow. Fishneedit, has an inexpensive unit: http://www.fishneedit.com/75w-metal-halide-pendant-ligh75.html

    pressurized CO2 question

Prefect, CO2 with low-medium light will still provide ample growth and again light is always the best way to throttle growth, not CO2.

What kind of water do you use?

Since this is in the Marine section, my 20gal Fowlr uses natural Seawater from Catalina. Its $.69 a gallon, but I only need 5gal a week for water changes, so the price isnt bad, and no hassles of reconstituting R/O.

What does it take to survive

Even if Bass survive in your tap, which most likely they would, if your fishing near your home. But a 55gal is not really a suitable home to for 2 bass, you would need to plan on buying a much larger aquarium if you really care for the well-being of the fish.

    NOT FREE aquarium

Why would you put the fish tank you NEED, by the pile of free stuff on the curb? I feel bad the fish, more so than the owner.

Setting up compressed CO2 - What else do I need

It is definitely cheaper to get it filled yourself. I dont pay more than $20 for 10lb swaps. Plus its a good idea to find the Welding or Extinguisher supply place nearby for future use.

Good low cost lights for a 55gallon

Yup, you're right about the reflectors, the shoplights are horrible about getting the light focued into the tank. And when you do get your 4x54 watt fixture, 2 bulbs will most be all the light you need, CO2 or not. I heard and seen the Sunblaze before, they're more suited for hydroponics, thats...

Issue with filter, plants, and eco-complete

Try some open-cell foam, for example the foam used for mechanical filtration in the aquaclear filter. It will take alot more time for foam to clog before a stocking does.

    Algae on Anubias Leaves

H2O2 breaks down really fast, making it harmless to an aquarium. I spot treat halfway through an waterchange when the water is at its lowest, since I do 50% per week. This leaves a fair bit of hardscape and some plants exposed, ensuring that what I treat gets it good.

Good low cost lights for a 55gallon

I go with the overhang, just a bit of future-proofing, or put a small nano tank next to the 30" tank, hehe.

    Algae on Anubias Leaves

I had really good success with H2O2, I would wait until a waterchange, so that pumps are off, then spot treat with a dosing syringe, usually within a few days, the BBA turns a bright pink and dies off. And if it was a piece of hardscape, I used Excel because its work faster and there is no plant...

Do you people like tatooed fishes?

Fish tattoos arent done with a needle btw, its done with laser. I'm not condoning it btw, but its better than the dye injections, because that is on par, with being stabbed with a pencil to human. But if you want to do you part, just dont buy them, and if you see anyone eyeing them at the LFS...
