Do you use bubble counter fluid??

Yeah thats the point I was making, it makes subtle changes easier to see because of that property. In a large tank, this is a godsend.

    Done with Aquariums

Jag, I know how you feel. I got burnt out too, I think I didnt posted anything for 3 months either, but I went low/med light and CO2 because of the constant trimming that 2 highlight/co2 75gals and their maintenance that wears you out. But I can say now, that I'm glad I didnt break down any...

    T5 or Compact Fluorescent

If you're in the market to purchase a new PRE-built fixture, T5 is the way to go. @Everyone, I think the OP meant power compacts not spiral CFLs. PC bulbs are nice too, since they are just u-shaped T5 bulbs btw, but it takes a good reflector to make them shine because of the odd shape, and...

    DIY CO2 piping question

Eheim Automatic Gravel Cleaner - Should I buy it ?

I would rather just use a normal syphon-vac and change some water at the same time, cant beat waterchanges.

    What I am doing wrong?

Dsr, Phan agreed with you and others in his last post, he stated he's used 50/50 and plants grew but he had the best results with 5k, which is close to what your arguing about. I've personally used 50/50 lighing in a low light tank that is stocked with Russian purple guppies, but that is more...

    Trimming Plants

If I'm not giving it away or seeding another tank, I cut on my usual pruning day and just toss it in the trash. In one week I'll have enough again or maybe wait a few extra days to make an even larger portion for friend or family. As for pruning, what works for me, I alternate every other week...

Do you use bubble counter fluid??

I wouldnt try it, baby oil has other things in it besides oil, such as fragrances.

Do you use bubble counter fluid??

The bubble counter fluid is mineral oil, and yes I use it. You never have to refill it, unless it leaks, and it also slows down the speed of the bubbles too.

    Aquarium safe clay?

That clay that is used in making DIY fertilizer is not for making structures, the clay has to be put into the soil rather quickly or it disintegrates, but by being placed under the gravel, the nutrients are not leeched up into the aquarium. Anything constructed with Clay, would have to fired...

    What I am doing wrong?

Phyroath, I would suggest getting a drop checker, to determine if you're getting high enough levels of CO2. But in the mean time you could try increasing (very slowly, like over the course of a day) the bubble rate and see if the plants growth improves, but pay alot of attention to your fish, so...

what do you think of this plant filter?

It doesnt have enough plant mass to really support more than a couple of small fish that have a light bio-load. Basically its just a clear hydroponics setup, and some stoner got the idea that fish would look awesome living in the reservoir.

Can too much light hurt plants?

Highlight levels in an aquarium are really still shade levels in the outside world. The only drawback to too much light, is the need for high CO2/nutrients levels and algae growth that must be watch or controlled.

Anyone messed with the High Intensity 3W LED's?

There are some good resources and build threads on http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc and http://www.plantedtank.net/forums, might want to try there too. Also search for threads by Corykeeper, he used to preach LED lighting quite a bit.

    what's wrong with my hygro?

I'm think potassium also, but even other element deficiencies like magnesium will look like iron or potassium, because they're lack of will prevent plants from utilizing available metals.

Anyone messed with the High Intensity 3W LED's?

I wouldnt touch LEDs yet, LEDs are still not at the ease and price that T5HO offers. Plus these kits on ebay are incomplete and need a driver (power supply) before they can be used on aquarium.

    What I am doing wrong?

The light sounds fine, the K rating is to determine what looks good to the human eye, the bulbs package should show a spectrum and if it has good amounts of light in the red/blue ends, it should be ok. The issues I would look at are, how are you determing proper CO2 levels? And second, what are...

    Purigen in planted tank

I use it in planted tanks with alot of wood. It helps keep the tank crystal clear between weekly water changes.
