The tank for the eel needs to be brackish though, just make sure of that. The eel will usually eat any fish or inverts that fit in its mouth. I prefer quarantining fish at least a month before adding them to the main tank.

I agree you need to get the salinity up, and keep in mind these fish generally show up to LFS in pretty bad shape. I'd keep it in the hospital tank. If you see diseases keep in mind they are extremely sensitive to copper.

when you say you treated with metro, do you mean like Jungle Parasite clear or food with met added?

I agree, good to mix in some frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. I used to target feed with a syringe to ensure they got their share before the fish would get to it.

The fish is not going to be affected from being "lonely", since adult oscars are not schooling fish. Oscars can be mixed with other cichlids too, but the problem would be the size, as it might not be willing to accept another fish. You could try an adult blue acara or some other medium size...

Angels are not a good choice for a 5 gallon tank, an adult angel will not be comfortable in there considering their shape and size.

I agree with the suggestion of Laetacara, they are fantastic fishes. I would stay away from the red humps only bc males sometimes tend to be somewhat rough, though not really aggressive at all. If you can get some Bujurquina that would be great, they are interesting small acara-types.

that's a crazy mix you got there. I'd setup a smaller tank (maybe 29 gal) for the acaras, but if you don't have another tank you might as well leave everything in the tank and eventually take out the fry and take them to a LFS for a trade, or give them away to someone.

D. compressiceps are not particularly vicious though, I'd look into emperor cichlids or buttis when it comes to Africans.
