With a curious kid like that sounds like you might have to make the rounds in the am, or at night, or both, to make sure all vital items, like fridge, freezer and stuff for the fish tank are plugged in. It sounds like it might be a matter of time before he unplugs something else.

What type of decholorinator are you using? What is the ammonia reading on your tap water. If the tap water is high in ammonia, this might be part of the problem.

Dual core processors are faster. Plus some applications are starting to require dual core processors. Although I cant think of an application off the top of my head. Currently quad core processors can only be found on desktop PCs

silly suggestion Is there anyway to put a webcam on the fish tank? And get another betta? Have the webcam active while you are gone? So if the betta does dissappear - the webcam would have the answers.

You need to be careful with the 'swallowing razor blade' feel. You might have strep throat. And if so, you need to see a doctor and get antibiotics. If you dont get antibiotics soon enough with strep throat, you will get rhuematic fever. I learned the hard way.
