    Nutrient Info

Thanks for the input Plantbrain. I'm glad you haven't had any issues with over dosing those nutrients. As for the U/V....I don't have one anyways, I was just repeating what the book, and a few articles I've read lately have stated. Something about how it chelates certain nutrients (maybe doesn't...

    Question about ebo-jager heater

OK ...got me! Maybe I'm thinking Emerse? Don't have a dictionary to sound smart:( One of them means sticking out of water....I KNOW! .....open mouth.....insert foot......

    Cut runners?

That might be a good idea, Len (50% ferts). I just did a pretty big tank overhaul today. It involved getting rid of most of my Crypts. I still have a Ciliata and an Undulata in the middle, though. These seemed to be doing ok, although have had some difficulty. I trimmed about half of the leaves...

    Question about ebo-jager heater

Uh, guys.....I think you are all confusing submerse (underwater) with immerse (sticking out of water). VC had the idea. Heh, I've done things like that too often to name!:p

    3 Quick question

Even if your fish do go to town on your snails, they probably won't knock out 30 snails at one time......Add them at night with the lights out so they can spread out and hide! Your Snails may be able to procreate fast enough to keep up with periodic losses....maybe not. If they can't keep up...

    Cut runners?

I just thought of another possibility of what might happen: Maybe if I leave them on the plants will use up their stored nutrients faster and need to look elswhere for food and grow roots quicker! Maybe it's better to leave them after all.

    Cut runners?

I just bought a couple of Pigmy Chain Sword plants today, and all of them are already sending up runners/flowers. Should I cut these since I just planted these plants? I imagine it would take up lots of energy to reproduce and I'm sure the plants need as much as possible in the beginning to...

    Nutrient Info

I picked up a book yesterday, and I'm very impressed with it. It's called "Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants" by Peter Hiscock. It is copywrighted for 2003, so this must be a new one. Anyways, this book really went into some great detail on many areas of aquatic plants and I was impressed to...

    Plants are struggling!

I added 1/4 tsp of "Greenlight Cut Vine and Stump Killer" -meant to kill the freshly cut stumps that are still green before you add the "Stump Remover", which is meant to jump-start the decay of the already-dead stump. I added 1/4 tsp at the beginning of the week (after water change) and then...

    Substrate Problem???

Just a thought.....isn't 5 or 6 years getting UP THERE in years for corys? I would think it weird for both of them to be experiencing gill problems at the same time from old age, but who knows. Maybe the plant had some unknown pathogen?

looking for a forground plant for a 1WPG and gravel substrate tank

If you can get Cryptocoryne to grow in your tank (which can be relatively low light demanding) they can work nicely.

    Good Freshwater Test Kit?

Amquel actually breaks the chloramine bond (ammonia + chlorine) then neutralizes ammonia (into ammonium, I think) and removes the remaining chlorine.....pretty full-contact in my opinion. I use this product and it works well. I like Seachem's PRIME best, because it adds extra stuff in also...

    Ich Help!!!

I'm glad that you guys are so cautious, but (this is MY opinion) I feel that it is unnecessary to worry so much about that small amount of medicine. I have used Ich meds in the past and had my hands all in the tank, although not for a few hours after it. If you haven't noticed, EVERYTHING...

    Plants are struggling!

Thanks for all the input, but I've cut the dead/rotting parts off, and replanted any stems that looked salvageable. I'm going to try to get through this without tearing it down. Man, it's funny but I always start things off having to fight from the bottom. I tried to study up for months, had...

    CO2 and Stocking levels

As I understand it, if you can get a large mass of plants doing well in your aquarium and get them pearling, then you will be better off than you are now. From what I've read, a plant pearls when it is producing O2 so frequently that the water around it cannot absorb any more and the O2 just...

    finicky fish

You can do one of two things to get more nutrients to your fish. I am a big fan of plenty of variety for my fish, but I'm sure that I spoil mine more than is necessary. First thing you can do is buy commercially prepared vitamin and supplement liquids made for soaking food in prior to...

I was going to say the same thing, Tom........use CO2, especially with a planted tank! The rest of the advice is good, though!

    Twin 55 stand unstained pics

Somefinn, please place some kind of bracket or bracing across the back.....I'm really scared for you to fill the top tank with any water. If the slightest sideways pressure hits that top tank, the stand will become a rhombus quickly (remember geometry). This is nice looking, but real dangerous...
