    Quick help!

You can buy a brand new setup with everything except the gravel and decorations for $160 ( or $169, maybe?) at Walmart. You can buy a 55 gallon with hood and lights only for $99 at Petsmart. I personally wouldn't buy it for more than MAYBE $125 TOPPS! (it's used......remember!)

    cleaning the tank......w/ fry

I guess that's why you need to be so careful not to overfeed with fry in the tank. You can't really be thorough in your cleaning!

    Intergreated tanks

I have seen at least one version of these systems sold through Dr. Foster+Smith.com. They are made by Seaclear and they come in 30 to 50 gal setups, starting at $400+ (which is probably fair, considering all that they come with). I would ask them for their catalogue so you can take a look at...

How many people have pet names for their fish

I only have names for my cichlids and my crawfish. Cichlids tend to live much longer than most other fish (mostly due to the larger nature of their size), but also they have some very unique personalities that helps to distinguish them from one another. It becomes easy to know which fish is...

    ghost shrimp

My opinion is a bit different than OG's, all except for the fact that they are more than willing to munch on any fry that are available! I had seven of them in my planted 20 gallon tank and have two left. They have all been very active in my tank. I have really enjoyed their addition. Feeding...

Day 2 Of Hagen CO2 Kit, But I think my water stats are wrong?

I used the Hagen mix packets at first until they were used up, but now I use my own brew.....much better results too. I don't ever see any kind of water or anything going into the tank in mine either.

    Vegetables for Cichlids

Actually I never really get to see him out and about any more. He has a perfect (for him) cave that gets plenty of water flow bringing him food and such, without any fish swimming back there to bother him. My blackbelt is now over 6", but I have had him with this crawfish (now well over 4" body...

Day 2 Of Hagen CO2 Kit, But I think my water stats are wrong?

I, too, have a raise in my KH. My KH used to drop when I was adding CO2. Over the time of about one month, it went from a solid 5.4 KH to below 3 KH. I decided to add a small bit of Crushed Coral to the filter. It ended up raising my KH to just over 6.0. I decided to discontinue the use of the...

    Java Fern Question

I can't find the article I got this info from now.....hmmmm? Anyways, I have a Java Fern with plantlets all over it too, and I did some research to find out the best ways to do it. The most informative article (can't find now) said that they can reproduce in several ways: rhizome division...

    Parasites in weak fish

Supposedly it has NO adverse affects on the biological cycle, it's bacteria, or plants and fish! Sound's awesome to me. I, too, am saving up for some. Let us know how things turn out, OK? I want to know how this product works, and whether your fish makes it.

    Vegetables for Cichlids

I have central american fish in my 55 gallon which love plenty of veggies! I have a Blackbelt and 4 Silver Dollars, as well as a Blue crayfish. I have fed them quite a few things and they like them all, but certainly have favorites. I have fed the following, in order of preference (the fish's)...

    Diy Co2 Plans

Wow. Tempest, I tried doing the exact same thing on my 20 gallon, before I finally got rid of my Penguin 125. It is amazing how much CO2 is lost even WITHOUT the bio-wheel. I tried adding an AC300 sponge to the main media chamber and ditching the silly filter pads, too. None of these made any...

    Diy Co2 Plans

I completely agree with the last post. I also have an Emp 400 on one of my tanks, and even tried using a Penguin 125 on my 20 gal planted tank. I eventually got rid of the thing, since my CO2 concentrations stunk! I now have an Eheim ECCO 2233 and I'm using two Nutrafin Natural plant system CO2...

    100 watt heater for a 20G?

I have been using a 100w heater on my 20 gallon tank for over 4 months now. I generally tend to use the 5w/gal rule. Some people dislike it, but I like being able to keep temps extra stable, and my heater also doesn't have to work as hard or as often.

anyone have a 12in. width tank?

I have a couple of 12" deep tanks. A 55 gallon and a 20 gallon. I think the they both look pretty good although it would always be nice to be wider. It takes some skill and playing around to get things looking right, though! I painted the back of my 20 black and it is heavily planted, so it...

Filtration for 46 gallon African Cichlids tank

Welcom to AC! You seem to be taking your time and thinking things through well. The first thing I would think about if trying to get one filter is ease of maintenance. Cleaning should be easy and efficient, or else people tend to get lazy with it. To give you an idea of what I did on my 55...

Ok, heres an Idea I have on Dissolving CO2 fully. Now you do the responces...

Trust me, you aren't going to get complete CO2 absorption into your water using a passive reactor. For there to be a decent amount of CO2 in the water, the bubbles have to be coming out pretty steady. I have this system running on my 20 gallon. These things are meant for up to 20 gallon setups...

    Multiple Aquarium Filter

To be honest I don't think there would be much problem using a decent sized canister filter. Just line up the 3 tanks side by side and place the intake of the canister in one of the end tanks, and the exit jet in the other end tank. Just place decent sized "U" shaped syphon tubes connecting the...

how can i achieve these parameters

Do it overnight to be most accurate. I always test the next day. Although I don't use an airstone, I have found water chemistry to be quite a bit different 24 hours later.

    magazines

If you just want one magazine, I'd go with TFH (Tropical Fish Hobbyist). It is the most widely known and respected (at least in the US). It is also larger than the others I will name. I also have a subscription to Aquarium Fish, which also has some very nice articles and pictures. I have tried...
