Female Molly - been gravid too long

Have you added any aquarium salt to the tank? I have found that sometimes raising the salinity of the water slightly can induce labor in gravid mollies. (I had one once who dropped out over 20 fry when put from her regular tank into one with about 1 tbls/5gallons worth of salt in it.)

    Skip Feedings

I often skip a day here ot there with most of my tanks. I have went on 3 day campouts and come back to thriving happy fish. Although usually my severum start getting frantic when they see me after that long wnating food.

    Severum Spawned!

UPDATE - Unfortunately the parents after about 3 days of tending to the eggs seem to have eaten them. Does this mean they were infertile? I swear I saw at least one wriggling. Can you remove the rock they spawn on and hatch the eggs in a fry tank?

    How do you sex Kribs?

WOw, I have been considering getting into this breed for a while. A LFS has some "wild caught" kribs that are about 3 inches long. Is that a good solid adult size for wild caughts? I've honestly never seen any larger in captivity.

    Malaysian Trumpet Snails

I have seen substrate in a bag that was dry for close to 6 months get put in a tank and while doing a fishless cycle MTS's appeared. So I can vouch for 6 months.

    Severum Spawned!

I discovered a pair of my green severum's spawned the other day. Suddently I have a rock coated with these golden colored eggs. All are tranluscent, except a few which have gone opaque. I assume like paradise fish those are the infertile ones? Am I right? They seem to pick off and eat these...

    Plaints by mail

I've had the same problem with emmersed plants. I've received plants more than a few times now by Mail, usually I float them in a Q-tank for a couple days if they are clump or stem plants, then plant them. Bigger rooting plants like swords I usually plant in my q-tank for a couple days...

Plump ottos and possible spawning triggers.

I have a group of 4 ottos in my 100 gallon planted tank. I believe I have three females and one male. Lately the three females have all gotten rather "plump" in this festive holiday season (also helping control a small algae issue). Literally they have trouble staying flat against the...

    Gourami bubble nest

What type of gourami? If they are of the blue/gold variety look at the dorsal fin. On a male it will be longer and pointed, on a female it will be shorter and rounded. I just had two paradise fish (a relative of the gouriami) spawn in a tank I had hoped they would just keep cycled and...

Final pics of tank before it gets destroyed.

I had a heaters control element go out once which stuck the heater on, and the resulting heat spike caused some of my plants in that tank to start melting. First victims were my Wendtii, next was apongentons and foxtail. Then I replaced the heater and slowly the plants have come back...

    Algae and Nutrient balance

If the ottos and ammano shrimp can handle up on the algae control I might not add the bristle, I have another tank which could use his tender mercies anyways.

    moneysaving ideas

There's a list of places that carry then at http://www.lightsofamerica.com ;) I'm going to check Sam's today and a couple other. since I plan on building a hood soon for my 100 and it would make a good way to get 250 watts of CF over it for under $150.

    Help! I'm new @ this!

Ok... First, what kind of Cichlids? Many you will have problems have any plants with as they will tend to uproot things. C02 you only start to need once you get up there in lighting, as in more than 2 watts per gallon of water or so.

which Flourish item is most used?

There's a post hiding somewhere around here with the listing of what you can get for all the macronutrient parts of the equation cheap. I believe it was: Sulfur of Potash from the local greenhouse Stump remover for the KNO3 Fleet Enema from the drug store for the potassium. I am at...

    Disappearing Clown Loach

I keep a group of 4 in my 100 gallon right now (while waiting for my new SE Asian tank to be ready). They love hiding, there are caves I built into the 100, and they have taken semi permanent residence in one. If I come around they'll restreat back to around the cave opening. Then once I...

    Algae and Nutrient balance

The Bamboo shrimp is also called a "wood shrimp" I think I just saw some on auction on www.aquabid.com . The end goal for my big tank is probably going to be Peacock Gudgeons, Ammano shrimp, some ottos, then either a group of rasboras or Cardinal tetras. One question a friend raised was...

    Emperors Vs Aquaclears

I have used both filter floss, and tried that "cheap" trick of the nylon quilt batting you can get in the crafts department, both work great in those extra "user fillable" carts on my emp 400's.
