He was sick a while ago. He had some gill disease and ick I think. He seemed to recover and was fine for a while and now I see that his color is very dark and splotchy and he is hiding when he use to come out and eat. What wrong with this fish???b
More info. I checked the water and apparently the meds made the tank start to cycle again. The nitrites were.5 and the ammonia wasn't quite .25. I did a significant water change and added a little amquel + some stress coat. I turned off the light and I could see the gudgeon start to swim around. I hope this was the right thing to do. I worked really hard to save this fish and I'm so afraid that he is loosing the battle.
I was looking at sites on the web and I found that his color darkening could be an internal parasite. Any ideas?? anyone. this is my very favorite fish and I don't want to loose him.
I have a colony of peacock gudgeons currently in a species tank. I have seen pics of the purple striped ones, maybe someday i'll find some in my neck of the woods.
I think a couple of my males have taken up roost in some pipe segments i laid in there so hopefully i'll have a spawn soon.
