    Bristlenose / Clean Up Crew

I have a 6 inch long male who is a GREAT cleaner. I hope to eventually find a female here locally to give him some company. I have not had alot of experience with bristlenoses. Will they go after plants much? The one I have is in a mostly non planted tank so I havent had the chance to...

    MyStErY BulBs!

I have a 55 gallong acrylic that I recently decided to take down, give a good thorough cleaning to and set back up as a SE Asian tank for some Loaches and Gourami I have. While rinsing and cleaning the substrate, and you would be amazed how much mulm can accumulate even with plants and some...

    Algae and Nutrient balance

Well I am preparing a SE Asian tank right now, which will be where the Gourami and Loaches move to soon. Then maybe I'll try some amanno shrimp, because i do really love the way they look and scurry around.

    Plant and forget?

I agree with the Aponegeton, how much lighting do you have over your tank? That comes into play too. If you see Foxtail around grab some. It's a frilly stem plant that Iput in tanks to eat up traces and waste. It actually tends to out compete algae for food given a little light. This...

    Suprise!

    Algae and Nutrient balance

    Emperors Vs Aquaclears

I dont get what this is about the Emporer and "noise". Just this last weekend I was talking to my GF about my 100 gallon , which has a Emp400 on the back of it, and she said she coudlnt tell because she couldnt hear anything running and thought the filter had broke.

    Big Als online

Well, I am all for the small LFS existing and doing well. But for instance in Dallas, it's not mail order that is killing the LFS, it's large chain stores which are undercutting prices. One of the nicer locally owned and operated sotres here went under less than a year ago, I have a rack...

    Preparing vegetable matter

I use Zuchinni (sp?) and my plecos, ottos, and SURPRISINGLY my clown loaches, all seem to love it. Slice in half and Chop up into chunks. Boil for about 1 min, then attach to rock for weight. Put left overs in a ziplock and freeze them for serving later. Not need to heat them up, just...

    Red plants being Green.

Wow, thanks guys! Well, the tank is due for a water change on thursday anyways, and I will be testing for NO3 content before and after the change. Then I suppose I'll wait a week anyway since my tank play time is going to be seriously cut down with my holiday family visiting schedule...

    Snails?

As for my 2 cents. I think a fwe snails tend to be a good thing for a tank if they're the right types of snails for the tank. MTSs for isntance are a boon to planted tanks.

First time plant owner, needs advice!

What are the domensions of your tank? That affects a few things. Usually you want at least 1 watt per gallon minimum for plants. At and over 2 wats per gallon you start needing to look at c02 addition which is a whole different story in my opinion. I have never heard of these fizzy...

But I suppose that looking at that strong new growth, even if green, should indicate a healthy water column with enough nutrients, I think....

Wow, thanks. I need to get some new test kits for this tank soon. I am missing a few and have run out of some so have been "winging it" until after the first. Also I promised my girlfriend no more fish toys until after the holidays. heh

    My weekend lighting adventure....

I have an all glass dual tube 36" fixture I use over my 55 which I currently have down for remodeling (moved the occupants to my new 100 while I'm remodeling so they can break in that tank.) One thing that had bugged me about this fixture was taht when I would turn it on the front tube would...

    Red plants being Green.

I recently acquired some "red" plants of various types (Red Wendtii, Rotala macrandra, and two other red stem plants i'm still looking up the exact names for. ) They are all growing very nicely in my 100g tank, (2wpg and pressurized c02), but the newer growth is coming in more of a green...

    Big Al's catalog

I would suspect that the reason you get the flyer too is that thier prices are subject to ferquent change and they'd rather not go through the expense of reprinting catalogs.

    Big Als online

I know I printed a few pages from Big Als and took into an LFS that said they woudl meat or beat any advertised price and they ended up flat out telling me they wouldn't. Fed up some story about "well any advertised price doesnt include the internet because who knows if t's real" Then the...
