    Flourish Excel

Excel is a carbon source an algacide. TR doesn't even use excel.

    Flourish Excel

I realize we talked about this a year ago or more, but I think it's important to say for people that don't know: I think your high light, fertilizer dosed tanks without added co2 are some bizarre exception, not the rule.

    Flourish Excel

:iagree: The larger the tank, the more expensive it'll be. Anything more than like a high light 30g and excel really starts to add up.

    DIY Tank Controller

Similiar to the Wasser-controller: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/66050-wasser-controller.html but it's nice that yours adds the temperature control. Temperature control and pH control are the two things most DIY controllers are missing these days. If you think of a cheap mod to allow...

    AquaSoil or Eco Complete

baked clay substrates last like 20 years or longer. AS grows plants better, but it only last a year, 2 tops.

    AquaSoil or Eco Complete

Basically, when it comes to nutrient content AS can't be beat because it's not a baked clay substrate. The downside is that, yes, it breaks down. Eco isn't as good in terms of nutrient content, but, as you know, it doesn't break down. So it's really up to. AS is better, but it comes with added...

    activated carbon vs ferts?

Indeed, there is no *need* for carbon in a planted tank, however it is not harmful and will not interfere with ferts. Carbon is great for removing meds. Also, if your tank starts to excesively stink, carbon will filter out the organic build up. FYI, it also filters out chlorine, but you...

AQUARIUM LIGHT ODYSSEA POWER COMPACT ARE STARTING ON FIRE!

This isn't the best logic. Just because something is more expensive, it doesn't mean it's better. Look at the Sun Sun vs JBJ filters.Sun Sun on ebay is like half the price(or less) of the JBJ....but literally they are the EXACT SAME FILTER. JBJ slaps their name on it and marks it up 200-300%...

Can I put wheels on my tank?

Yeah, I meant to comment on that too.

Can I put wheels on my tank?

Depends on the build of the stand. It'll put the full weight just on the spots where you have wheels, so you better make sure the stand can handle that. However, as somebody else said, a furniture dolly would be a good idea.

    UV Sterilizer as Algae Prophylactic

Because it actually is that simple. People think it is more complex and therefore often "chase the dragon" trying to eliminate their BBA woes, when all the while they could have simply increased their co2, or if not possible because it's already as high as livestock will allow, decrease their...

    UV Sterilizer as Algae Prophylactic

A UV will not prevent BBA. BBA is a symptom of unbalanced co2/light. Either increase co2 or decrease your lighting.

    Exhaling into a tank???

This has been done. There's a guy that used to be on APC that used to fill up trash bags with air, and then pump that air into the tank. It was lame because he had to use like 4 55g trash bags a day or something ridiculous like that. Imagine having those sitting around and how trashy it would...

    UV Sterilizer as Algae Prophylactic

I've heard people say that, but never seen any scientific evidence....and the people I've heard say that prefer a false negative to a false positive...as in, they assume it must be a bad thing and that assumption is safer to them. Anyway, I've been running UVs on my planted tanks for a while...

    Jeffrey's "Big Boy"---120g Planted

it's a DIY system, using three irrigation solenoids, controlled by my DIY controller, and with a mini float switch from Fishbowl Inovations. I'm dedicating the last week of Jan and/or first week of Feb to getting this tank up and running.

Only the pH, I'll have to check out water hardness, might give me some idea about what happened.

Absolute Tragedy: Lost all four of my Parotocinclus sp 'Peru'

They are extremely rare. Googling I'm only seeing people in Singapore and Japan that have these fish. I originally got them from a club auction, someone imported them. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some more from that person. The Oto was and is fine...never had any issues. I've since added...

    Jeffrey's "Little Man" -ADA 60-P

Two reasons: In my experience, if you have high intensity lighting that otherwise could cause algae issues, two shorter photoperiods are better than one long one. The other reason is so that I can spread out my photoperiod. At the intensity I want, running from 12-8 would give me algae...

    Will RO filter lower PH

RO water will pull water closer to 7.0. Therefore, if your source water is higher than 7.0, it will lower it. Conversely, if your source water is lower than 7.0, it will raise it. So, in your case, RO water will soften and lower your pH. If it has a pH of 9 out of that tap, it's a safe bet that...
