How not to lose critters, changing substrate, ???

I'm thinking of changing my substrate. BUT, I have mts and live black worms. I do not want to lose these. I can not afford to replace them. (and no my mts do not reproduce rapidly) So how can I change the out the old substrate without losing my little critters? Help!!! Thank you.

    The California Blackworm

Has anyone else ever had a marimo moss ball in with these critters? I picked up one the other day to squeeze it out and rinse it and it was full of worms! My betta has started staking it out LOL! I have noticed where another moss ball was in another tank that they seem to have eaten it. O.O...

How not to lose critters, changing substrate, ???

Not quite sure this is the right department to post this, but it does involve snails lol. I'm thinking of changing my substrate. BUT, I have mts and live black worms. I do not want to lose these. I can not afford to replace them. (and no my mts do not reproduce rapidly) So how can I change...

Whats the hardest fish/creature youve ever had to net?

I've never been able to catch my blue gourami. She is the biggest I've had, I thought that would mean easy to catch, but nooo! LOL She even thinks a net is coming near the tank and she's off! haha I finally gotten fairly good at catching the bettas, they are quite funny, some I can just scoop...

    plants losing leaves

For the last 2 -3 months, yes, before that as far as I know everything was stable (but was starting to lose the lily leaves anyway). It was only that one time. After cleaning it out it has not come back. (In either of the 2 tanks it happened in.) No, I'm not positive, it looked like white...

    Best sand for cories, khulis?

What would be the best safest sand for cories and black khulis? (I also have plants.) I'm looking to change my substrate (LONG story..), these are the ones that should be available for me to get...

    The Great (Nerite) Escape

Luckily I've always caught mine before they made it all the way out of the tank, but sometimes I get one that just prefers to stay above the water. This is particularly annoying when trying to acclimate them lol.

    plants losing leaves

oops I forgot, I have one 'new' crypt (last summer) it's about 3 inches tall, I had 7 seven leaves but one recently shriveled up and died, and the other leaves are getting pin holes in them. But, I had accidentally disturbed it with the vacuum a couple or few weeks ago, with that and I had tried...

    plants losing leaves

No drop checker. I only added the co2 (3L bottle) in January, they were losing (the lily, I added more swords earlier January) leaves before that too. I also dose excel once a week, I want to think I was using half strength, but I'm not sure, I've already melted most the plants that didn't like...

    Water change temperature question

Nope, 35 gallon pond tote. The garden hose is rather slow. (and I wasn't actually timing it, but I'm sure it took at least close to around an hour to refill yesterday. I use the 'shower' setting so I don't blast the fish out of the water lol.) The indoor tanks don't take that long, but I still...

    My Duck weed is gone

I had some in a betta tank (undergravel filter) and it disappeared to. The bettas would only try eating it once LOL, then left it alone. I was hoping to grow some for the pond, guess not. (Watersprite also dies off faster than it grows, don't know why..) I can only guess, but I'd think it's...

    plants losing leaves

Hi, My dwarf lily and one or more of my amazon swords are losing their leaves. Not all of them, but I find a leaf or few floating in the water every week or couple times a week. This is in a 29g, has 2 T-12 light bulbs, diy co2, somewhat recently planted seachem and api root tabs under...

    Water change temperature question

urgh. The pond temp was nearly 70, that would be a big difference... but our average temps here for last 6 months might be more like 40 -60s, so maybe it wasn't too bad?? oy.

    Water change temperature question

That makes sense. Mine is only 35g. Since it was only the first water change of the season, I don't know the percentage, I just took out all but a few inches. It does take maybe an hour or hour and a half to refill. (Which is a little annoying as taking it out doesn't take long at all, I just...

    salt and bettas?

I have never read anything (that I recall) about not using salt with medicine (but I've only been at this a few years). As for snails, some are ok with salt, just for safety you don't want the salt to touch the snails, so either dissolve the salt in a cup in aquarium water before adding it, or...

    Water change temperature question

I had assumed that when I change the water for the pond, that since both it and the hose are outside that it would be the same temperature. Is that actually true? or true-ish?
