I bought red spot nerites at my LFS a few weeks ago and was also given mystery nerite for free. The guy at the LFS said that these mystery ones occasionally pop up in their nerite orders, and I figured "Sure, why not?". But, I cannot seem to get this little guy to stay in my tank. I've found him all over outside the tank, from curled up on the carpet, to trudging along on the table.

Has anyone had any experience with a nerite constantly escaping? I'm inclined to think that maybe this guy actually belongs out of water. (Water params are all normal. NH3 - 0 ppm, NO2 - 0 ppm, NO3 - 20 ppm)

Luckily I've always caught mine before they made it all the way out of the tank, but sometimes I get one that just prefers to stay above the water.
This is particularly annoying when trying to acclimate them lol.

I've gone with the glass tops on my tanks and then just cut small enough holes in the plastic flashing for the tubing to get in and out of. The snails are too big to get through. I did accidentally leave the top open a couple of times and found briggs out on the carpet (no nerites though)...that and my labrador retriever tried to eat one. Apparently they taste bad, he spit it right out. Too late for the snail though.
