I'm just using it as a fertilizer, will it work well as that? don't care about the "instant cycle" crap or value (got it for $1.50 @ Petco).

    Substrate?

maybe you need to add tab fertilizers to the substrate. I'm guessing because waste cannot get underneath the surface of the sand because it is so tight, decomposition of waste cannot happen there. Plants that have roots and rely upon roots for food won't be able to get anything from their roots...

    HELP!!

Hi, I've used the API root tabs, from Petco, right? like 8 or 10 in a pack anyways, yeah, it dissolves in a day, so make sure it goes deep into the gravel. I have black sand, so I have to fertilize it myself since decomp doesn't happen under the top of the sand. Once I guess I didn't push...

    Koi id anyone

in koi terms it would be "doitsu". meaning scaleless. However in variety of koi I wouldn't know, looks like a common mirror carp though from the supermarket (no offense!!!). to properly ID the koi you would have to look at it from the top.

13 cents to get a koi baby at Petco

My petsmart gives their crayfish away (they'ree parasites on plants). yeah, 13 cents for a koi baby, but more chances than not its sick, so make sure you quarantine and treat accordingly. However, since the meds are prob more $$$ than the 13 cent fish is worth, why not just start with a...

    Miracle goldfish.

make sure you fix the filter or get a new one asap because all the new water could be stressing your goldfish out.

    Guppy or not to Guppy

I would never put them into my tank because it's a PITA to remove the babies in my planted tank. In addition, because of their extravagant displays of colors, they just seemed very artificial and manmade to me, when I wanted a natural tank with fish that looked like they fit in. If they had nice...

    Lost my first fish?

what kinda filter do you have? when I had the really bulky intank Tetra Whispers (another regret of my life), my clown loaches would love to swim upstream into the filter. I'd have to "fish" them out with my fingers.

1 canister filter for 2 tanks?

yeah, i'd go with a waterfall from one tank to the other. I've seen it at some petsmarts, its their plants tank. Water overflows from one tank to another to another in a neat waterfall. Looks really nice. I wish I could show you. with your design i wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

    $1 petsmart sale

love it. my local petsmart amazingly has pretty much disease-free fish, and a huge selection, which is something my petco could not say. their sale prices are great as well! $5 is too much for a cardinal, in soCal the avg price is around 3 bucks, 2 for a neon.
