Are they any brightly colored shellies that would work? Would a betta work in a 5 gallon? That might be nice for my office.

I have extra 5 and 10 gallon tanks. I know that the tanks are very small, but I was wondering if there is any type of cichlid that could live (and thrive) in such a small tank. If I set one of them back up, I'd like go with a small show fish.

I bet you're right about the Syno's eating the BN fry. Considering there are only about 10 babies left (that I can see), the others probably made a nice meal for the chubby girls.

I'm pretty sure that my upside-down cats are Synodontis nigriventris. I also suspect that they are both females (and thus not likely to breed...) as they both have very fat bellies and pretty much just sit nestled in plants all day. The fry tend to just skim along the substrate and up and down...

Thanks! I read that they like to have a perch near the outflow, as that is where they use their fans to get food from the water. One of my concerns is that I don't want him to hide all of the time. I already have 2 upside-down catfish that I only see during water changes.
