My dwarf flame died last week, after being with us for 4 months. Did great the first 3 months, then started hiding, didn't seem sick other than that.
This is the 3rd time this happened during the last year. My son loves them so I get one once in a while always with the same results. It can be...
If you can find somebody to do it for you, definitely do it. 4 days w/out ammonia is too long. And after waiting all that time you'd probably hate to start it over again :(
Flakes may work, but you can't really control how long they will take to decompose or how much ammonia you'll get...
I got these new plastic plants for my tank, but then changed my mind and used real plants instead. Paid around $35.
They're brand new, were in the tank for several hours.
Sizes: 17", 12" X 2, 10", 5", 4".
$20, shipping included, or best offer.
Welcome, Sharon!
I wouldn't worry about the gravel (as you can definitely grow plants in regular gravel).
However, you do need to make sure you have enough light, as this is usually a problem with new setups (unless you bought your lights separately!). What do you have on the 24g?
Jim, it depends on what you want to grow :)
My tank is a 38g which I think is the same height as the 29. I have a 75W light - just under 2WPG + yeast-base CO2. I grow low and low-medium light plants (anubias, crypts, java ferna and moss, water sprite, wisteria) and they all do quite well.
If...
I just noticed my moss is turning slightly green!! It was totally brown, looked dead!
I planned to remove it this weekend. I'll leave it in for a little longer, will see what happens...
I think I've read something similar once, about moss taking some time to establish. Has it happened to anyone?
If you keep your filter media, you should have enough bacteria left to cope with the change.
I recently changed the gravel in my tank (38 gallon). Parameters were monitored carefully during the following week or two, there were absolutely no ammonia/nitrite spikes.
Good luck!
LOL!!
And just in case somebody needs the reference -

Great pictures, daayda! I want to go somewhere nice too :)
I
Mine died too :(
Got a nice green chunk (thanks again ImAGMan), that turned brown within 2 weeks. I have water sprite, wisteria, crypts, anubias, java ferns. Everything else seems happy. I use regular (dechlored) tap water, yeast-based CO2. Water temp 78-80.
Hey and if any of you guys can send...
Bleach won't really clean anything - it will just disinfect. You need a weak solution so you can rinse off all residues.
The best thing to do is scrape things off - use a NEW piece of dish washing sponge, scotch-brite or something similar, and remove the buildup. use warm water, no soap. With...
Connie, I assumed you're talking about plastic plants. If that is the case, you're fine - just clean them and you're good to go. If these are live plants, we're talking about a different thing, and in that case do check Rex Grigg's site. I wouldn't bother otherwise as it's very specific to...
