Welcome, Sharon! I wouldn't worry about the gravel (as you can definitely grow plants in regular gravel). However, you do need to make sure you have enough light, as this is usually a problem with new setups (unless you bought your lights separately!). What do you have on the 24g?

I just noticed my moss is turning slightly green!! It was totally brown, looked dead! I planned to remove it this weekend. I'll leave it in for a little longer, will see what happens... I think I've read something similar once, about moss taking some time to establish. Has it happened to anyone?

If you keep your filter media, you should have enough bacteria left to cope with the change. I recently changed the gravel in my tank (38 gallon). Parameters were monitored carefully during the following week or two, there were absolutely no ammonia/nitrite spikes. Good luck!
