1 AC 110 sponge makes 4 Fluval 404 sponges

As some of you know my recent Ebay Fluval 404 buy although in excellent condition for $35 came without the 4 mechanical filtering sponges. As I was about to spend $13 for 4 new sponges at LFS it suddenly occurred to me that I had an extra new AquaClear 110 sponge that was about the same size that's cost me new only $5. Measuring the sponge it was evident it was the same high but 4X the width and only required to be cut into 4 even sections. Having upholstered my own motorcycle seats I realized this could be done worth a simple bread knife if cut evenly in half, then cut in half again. The results were better then expected and fit better and more snugly then regular sponges. Below are the photo steps.

ARE you related to Martha Stewart? I have a feeling you are!

Hay it fits way more snug where the slop is and the water bypasses, also you notice how AC filter has more surface area, pulse the cost sayings I'm looking forward to try it. But you do have a point maybe I can get my own show "Aquarium Guy" or "Aqua Time"

That's allot of tanks you have there, your not going to be the first fish keeper in history to end up on an episode of animal rescue 911 with 100 aquariums and no place to walk LOL? Just kidding

it was a good DIY tip you came up with tho :) I will try it. and yes with all these tanks thinking about moving into a warehouse so I will have more room LOL

Now I just have to rummage through my PVC sprinkler part box to see if I can find a "T" fitting for a discharge and a strait section with end cap so I can drill holes in it for a strainer. Who wants to wait for another UPS shipment for these small parts when I can make them. Now where did I put my Martha Stewart work smock, gloves, and hat?

You need to have a show on PBS. To bad they don't have aquarium shows on tv :)
