Ok--but I would put the betta through the same quarantine before adding the CPD's. Otherwise, anything the neon has may infect the betta who then infects the CPD's. Glad the neon will have a happy home.
Well, it's been a few days now since the tetra has been in with the betta and we've concluded he does NOT like the tetra. So unfortunately, we will not be putting the CPDs in with him. The betta is surprisingly quick! Check out my video.
Many times I have put a betta in my display tank b/c they are so showy... The bigger problem is other fish nipping the betta fins... I have found if I provide floating plants on top of the tank the beta can retreat as needed into the plants for safety.
I saw a betta in a larger tank--75 gallons at least--in a bar. He used every square inch, and didn't get pushed around by any of the other fish. I don't recall specifics (dougall might), but it was generic community tank. So it can work, but it really depends on the individual fish. Some are just jerks.
The LFS I worked at for a short time a few years back had a 125g display tank with a betta, some discus, an EBJD and various other fish...hardly saw the betta, but always looked healthy.
