Besides the fact that two 2" fish will overstock such a tiny tank, white clouds are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of 6+. They are almost as active as danios, and should never, EVER be kept in a tank this small. I'm sick and tired of seeing white clouds in 2 gallons at the NSLFS, and would hate for this to become a trend.

I completely agree with you here DP, I'm so tired of the WCMM always being suggested for small tanks.

what about a single male endler? maybe 2 if you did frequent water changes, they are colorful, small and cute.

no fish are suitable for a 1 gallon tank.

really, 1 gallon tanks are not suitable for any fish.

How big is a 1 gallon tank?

These are just combinations I quickly came up with which would total 1 gallon. (all in L x W x H format)

8" x 6" x 5"

6" x 6" x 6.5"

10" x 6" x 4"

9" x 5" x 5"

No matter how you look at it, a one gallon tank is pretty tiny. I'm tempted to say the smallest container I'd keep any living creature would be the 2.5g glass tank petsmart has for $10. Its 12" x 6" x 8". Even in a 2.5g, I'd perhaps keep a single betta with a micro filter and a 15 watt heater, or perhaps a couple male endlers and 3-4 amano shrimp. Either way would likely be a planted tank. Convenient desk size, as it doesn't weigh much, and if the unthinkable should happen and something damages the tank, its not nearly as devastating as 10g of water could be. (though, if there are electronics near, even just a couple drops can be catastrophic)

I've got WAY too many horror stories... but the first two I think of when it comes to clueless fishkeepers are the kid who had 3 5" oscars in a 10g tank, and the lady who had a 4" blood parrot cichlid and a 6" pleco in a 5g tank. (though I have also had a customer who had 1 black moor, 2 comets, and 2 shubunkins all in a 2.5g tank)
