1 gallon tank useless??

I was just given a 1 gallon tank (Hawkeye Aquaview) as a gift. After reading through many posts about overpopulation I am questioning the ability to have more than one fish in the tank. I want to make sure that if I get fish, they are happy fish (not sardines). Can anyone help me on ideas about what I can do with such a small tank. Thanx

not useless, use it as a beer mug. 1 gallon beer makes gaga happy...hmmmmm

Emg i bet you would be amazed how much more color your betta would have if you installed a heater and warmed him up to 80.

the betta in my avitar spent a brief time in the low 70's and his whole body was blanched to a blue/brown color- as you can tell at warmer temps his is an almost black deep blue.

A tank that small might hold 2 male guppies.
I wouldnt put snails in a tank like that. They are messy IMO and compared to their waste, their cleaning ability is zero.
I wouldn't add females though unless you are prepared to care for fry.
Maybe the 1 gal would hold fry for a week or two until they were ready to go to some place larger...

Thanks Kyle, but he's fine. :) If he wasn't warm enough he wouldn't be so active. Cold uncomfortable fish don't move much. The tank stays at 76-78 during the day...only goes down to about 72-74 at night. Heaters are pretty dangerous in tanks that small. Those little tanks can heat up quite fast and cook your fish if you don't watch it all the time.

You just have to be sure you keep small tanks in warm places. It's about all you can do temp wise for little tanks....using lighting for heat works too...but if the room is cold, when you turn the light off at night the temp change would be too drastic.

I replaced the older pics on my last post here....with newer ones just taken this morning.....he is a VERY colorful betta, his white coloring isn't a result of poor conditions and stress...it is his natural coloring. He is a VERY white betta. If color, activity and health are any indication of water quality and "happiness".......then I'd have to say this betta is a very happy fella just where he is.

Small tanks are NOT for people who don't enjoy the tasks involved in caring for thier fish. I thoroughly enjoy taking care of my fish, so keep right ontop of maintenance ALL the time ! My tanks are never dirty and ill kept. That's why my fish do so well in them.
