1 year supply of free aquaclear inserts

Looks like it is about $4 for both the foam and the carbon, but the foam can be used twice. So really $2 a month and an additional $2 every other month. Not too bad considering I was paying $1 a month for cheap carbon for the pf10. I am more than willing to do that to use the better filter and have better water quality for the fish.

On that comment I disagree as I found that I can pack poly-fil to the density I need to achieve the same clarity and quality. Using it for the best effect still brings me in a $4.00 a year per filter. You really need to use the method that gives you the most confidence regardless. I also have the luxury of free time that many people don't have. I was able to utilize that free time to show me what worked best and at what rate. I was also able to use it in canister filters as well to prove its efficacy. I have used it in, corner (box) filters, HOB, (Marineland) HOT, canister and wet/dry (trickle filter). I have also used in in conjunction to UGF's.

I started on the quest do to having too many different filters and having to keep a large variety of cartridges on hand. So I found a "Fits-all" that works! Hope you get your free things and don't end up getting hosed.

P.S. I agree about the AC sponges, they last forever!

Yeah, I know they can be rinsed, but to get the free ones, I need to buy 6 of them first. They are probably good to have lying around anyway. Might try to find a way to get one in my 5g filter as well. I think for now I will stick to not making diy inserts, but I will be putting another foam in after the bio max stuff. What does that do anyway? It doesnt seem like it is something you replace. I guess there is my next question to keep this thread useful. What is the bio max (not chemically, like what does it do for me?) and should I replace it? If so, how often?

Biomax is another place for your beneficial bacteria to live, just swish it around in your old water every couple weeks when you do a W/C.

My AquaClear load outs from bottom to top are all sponge, sponge, purigen, biomax. My tanks with 2 filters I only run Purigen in one of them.

You can trim the sponges to fit almost any filter & they (almost) never need to be replaced. Poly-fil is also good, so cheap just pitch it out. If the sponges & carbon are free, get them! Many uses! & they don't "go bad". A life time supply! Do it!

Really, after a little thinking it is really 2 for the price of one. So really it would cost about $1 every month for the carbon and an additional $1 every few months for the sponge if I decide to replace it.
