I'm looking at doing a very aquascaped tank with my 10 gal, more on the plants then fish, but I want a fish with personality that thrives in such an environment, for entertainment sake of those who can't appreciate a planted tank, any suggestions?

Sparkling gouramis are your best bet. Hyphessobrycon amandae make suitable schooling additions. If you intend to get sparkling gouramis, best to avoid larger anabantid species as these are very timid. Corydoras pygmaeus for bottom.

hey lup, or anyone else, what do u think would be an ideal number of any combination or all of the above fish suggested by lup?

I'd get a pair of sparkling gouramis and add some cherry shrimp to clean up any algae.

I wouldn't put Rummynose tetras in a 10g......just from personal experience, they like their space.

The Sparkling gourami and shrimp combo would be great. Both like having the plants for hiding if needed. :) Sparkling gouramis are cute little fish.

If you could find some Microrasboras, they'd be fine. You could have around 8 of them, since they are small. They'd be fine with shrimp as well.

I personally wouldn't put Dwarf Cories in a 10g, but some people do. They just like more room that that footprint allows. Alot of dwarves (pygmy, hastatus, habrosus cories) dont stay on the bottom all the time. The like bigger groups than other cories (most likely because they are alot smaller) and school more IME.

2-3 Sparkling gouramis
6-8 Hyphessobrycon amandae (This can be applied to Microrasbora).
6 Corydoras pygmaeus

i enjoied my guppies in my 10 gallon tank. The reason i like them so much is because they never get boring. When u get the breeding tank set up its fun to watch them breed. Its a speices that u are busy with so they arnt boring. Also no one guppy is exactly the same. Breeding them for different colors is fun. You willl end up with a tank full of color.

I would personally put a betta in there :) bettas will swim over and under any plants you put in there and mine seem to like to rest and swim closer to the live plants then plastic or silk. They are definitely fish with personality when given the space.
