10 gal stocking

A betta with a few bottom-dwellers would be very nice. :grinyes:

Rasboras, white clouds, danios, shrimp, mollies, platies, otos, and guppies would all appreciate this setup. What about a pair of rainbowfish? A pair of dwarf gouramis might be nice.
I would never suggest keeping rainbowfish in pairs. They are schoolers and should be kept in a minimum of three at the very least. What species are you suggesting? The name is broad to me. Look into the Pseudomugil genus or stick with 4-6 Iriatherina werneri but no bettas or you'll compromise their safety.

Danios will appreciate more swimming space than a 10g. As for rasboras, look into Boraras and Microrasbora genera. For livebearers, stick to only males unless you have accommodations for the fry.

I would personally put a betta in there :) bettas will swim over and under any plants you put in there and mine seem to like to rest and swim closer to the live plants then plastic or silk. They are definitely fish with personality when given the space.

:iagree:

I had a betta in a 10g with a couple of Corys, and he was definitely one happy, active fish.

right now i'm debating between, beta with some armano or cherry shrimp, or cory's, or 3 dp's with some shrimp (if they let them live)

If you pick a betta and want to try shrimp with it, I'd recommend experimenting with some ghost shrimp first. That way if they all get eaten, you're only out about $1. Some bettas couldn't care less about shrimp, but other bettas love them...for dinner.

I would go with the DP's with some Oto's for algie control. The DP's are a very active fish with a ton of personality. The Oto's will be great algie control too.

dwarf puffers would be the best IMO
could def put 3 in there. 2 f, 1 male

X2
If you want fish with personality, you can't go wrong with dwarf puffers. They are perfect for a heavily planted 10g.
I have a well planted 10g with 2 DPs, 2 Ottos, and 6 or 7 ghost shrimp. I can watch this tank for hours and not get bored.

Just be careful with the Betta. I had one in with my rasboras and corys and he was fine for a few months before going insane and eating one of the rasboras (well, half of him). He immediatly was put in his own 2.5g and now lives happily there.

My setup is below and has been going now for about 4 months and is stable in all the parameters. It's a bit on the overcrowded side for some people but the fish all behave normally (though my rasboras are getting a little more skittish and a little less playful) so it seems to be working. Once my last ghost shrimp die off I plan to add a few CRS shrimp for algae patrol, I just can't seem to keep an oto alive in any tank I have owned.

What species is the rasbora?

I"m 99% sure i'm going with dp's, i really have fell for them with how cute and personality wise they are and i enjoy the work that goes along with them, so i'm debating oto's or shrimp (if they live), i think i'll go with oto's and do as people suggested earlier in a different thread and do that bucket of rocks in the sun for algae to keep them fed, but also any suggestions for breeding snails in a side tank to give to the dp's as treats

i work in a pet store so all the snails we find, we give to the dp's to enjoy watching them navigate and hunt down the snails, (its one of my fav things i've ever seen) so its the leading thing toward me getting dps
