10 gal stocking

I"m 99% sure i'm going with dp's, i really have fell for them with how cute and personality wise they are and i enjoy the work that goes along with them, so i'm debating oto's or shrimp (if they live), i think i'll go with oto's and do as people suggested earlier in a different thread and do that bucket of rocks in the sun for algae to keep them fed, but also any suggestions for breeding snails in a side tank to give to the dp's as treats
LOL..I was the one who suggested the algae production factory idea although I am sure others have already think about this.:) As for your snails, get some pond snails and try to produce them in a 10g with plenty of plant matter and food supply.

would producing snails work in a smaller tank, such as a 2 gal or somethin, i'm in a dorm so space is of the essense and would that snail tank require filtration etc? aka i have no idea wat snails need and only seem to get them when i don't want them, soo hELP!! :)

A sponge filter would be sufficient enough. If you can get a 5g, it's even better than a 2g. Pond snails eat decaying matter and algae.

do i need to use some substrate from my established tank for the snails aka does the snails tank need to be cycled? and to keep them alive just put a lil of fish food and maybe one of the oto's algae rocks form the algae factory in their tank with the sponge filter?

My snail farm is just a 2.5g tank with a shallow layer of river pebbles as substrate and a Red Sea Deco Art nano filter. It's got two plants and a cave type thing that's just some little rocks in a heap. It has a little heater set at 76F. I feed them veggies and algae wafers. Just a warning, though - in a tank that small, you likely won't be able to grow enough snails to keep up with three dwarf puffers. Dwarf puffers are pigs and eat WAY more than you'd ever expect for such teeny fish. I'm always going begging at different lfs for all the pond snails they're willing to fish out of their tanks and give me. I don't want pond snails in any of my other tanks, though, so they just get a 2.5g. The only other empty tanks I have are QT tanks, and I don't want an invert colony in one because then I wouldn't be able to medicate it.

i just want some snails on hand to mix in to there diet as something a lil more then treats, but not necessarily their primary diet, that'll be more of bloodworms etc that they like, so i may get a 5 or so for them, prob is i'm only supposed to have 1 10 gal tank and i already have 1 and i want to add this 10 gal + the snail tank so... :) who follows rules anyway
