I have a 10 gal tank That I would like to stock up with cichlids.. Currently houses guppies (I plan on selling them). I want to start with a new type of fish.. What are my options for a 10 gal or 20 gal long?
looks exactly like my post when I was first looking for a small cichlid tank. The choice I made was a 20 gallon long with Neolamprologus Multifasciatus and I'm VERY happy with my choice. These are not a very demanding fish and extremely easy to breed. They are also FULL of personality.
setup: 20 gallon long tank, pool filter sand (pool filter sand is a larger grain size, pre-cleaned and non-toxic), lots of shells to choose from, a sponge filter and a small power filter. Filtration is not critical as long as the current is not strong enough to wash the sand around and suck into the filter. I started with an aquaclear 30 which was much too strong so I now use a penguin mini which works great. I have heard of shelldwellers spitting sand into the filter intake but mine have behaved so far
Mine actually prefer flakes but will eat most anything small enough for them to eat.
