I recently put together a new unplanted 10 gallon. The filter I used is one that I hung in an established 20 gallon for a week and I threw in some platies as I've got quite a few of those to go around. Two weeks into setting the 10 gallon up and I've seen no ammonia and no nitrite at all with daily testing. There are some nitrates present in the tank - but these may have come in as I used tank water from the established 20 gallon to partially fill the 10 gallon.
What are the odds that I managed an instant cycle?
I want to be sure I'm relatively safe before I get my pepper corys in there as the permanent residents.
