10 gallon goldfish tank, no water changes, 10ppm nitrates?

I was just thinking about that. Maybe I'll send him a text message tonight to have him bring me a cup of water tomorrow.

As you know the #2 bottle needs to be agitated for about 1 minute, i wonder if he did that.......:)

ok,i just read through this thread and why is evry1 saying that the boss is lying about not doing water changes? i have 2 friends who both dont bother with water changes,1 has a 5 gallon with 2 large fantails which shes owned for around 3 years,no filter, and they get water changes every few months, another friend has a 8-10 gallon with 4 goldfish and 1 weather loach, with an ugf, and they dont change their water more than once every yr or so,they do top up the tank if it starts getting too low, straight from tap with no dechlorinator etc, their fish have been living like this for well over 2 years :eek3: i find it shocking that people do this to their pets but hey,ive told them and they wont listen. not only are my friends tiny tanks incredibly overstocked, but they have never lost a fish, its amazing as i try to do my best with all my fish and ive lost so many in the past! i just dont get it! my old next door neighbours used to have 5 gallon, no gravel or anything, just few goldfish in plain glass tank with no lid, when they changed the water every few weeks there was no messing around, they just took out the fish, put them in mugs, emptied the tank, refilled it straight from tap and tipped fish back in :wall: trying to get people to understand the errors they make is near impossible when their fish live for a long time with no illness and mine go fins up at the slightest problem:angryfire: makes me mad, but not much more i can do!

I think they said they don't believe the amount of nitrates he reported. Fish produce nitrates, if they are not removed mechanically by water changes, or biologically by bacteria (requires anaerobic bacteria which aren't commonly found in an aquarium), plants or algae then they have to be in the water.

everyone isn't...I reckon he's telling the truth all right, more's the pity, but not doing the test right or, lying about the results as JRR astutely pointed out.

oh right,i see now, sorry, must have read it wrong :headshake2: still dont understand why anybody would have fishies and not take decent care of them, bet they wouldnt want to live in their own poop :angryfire:
