I am looking into setting up my 10 gallon tank for a nano tank. I have started reading some stuff on this setup, and I have one problem. For filtration do I only need life rock and live sand? I have never done a saltwater tank. Please help

This is what I want to have in my tank.

10lbs of Live rock
5lbs live sand
50 Watt Heater
100 gph powerhead

Snails:
4-turbo
4-Astraea

Shrimp:
2 Skunk Cleaner

Crabs:
3 Red reef

Fish:
Some king of goby

Coral:
I would like to add coral sometime down the road. What would work good in this setup.
Would this kind of setup work

Thanks

Hi there...

Yes, the live rock and sand will be your filtration and no need to an external filter.

The flow you will get from the powerhead could do with being higher, around double that ammount really. If it was just going to be a Fish Only tank (FO) rather than a Fish Only With Live Rock (FOWLR) tank, which is what your proposing, then the one powerhead you have mentioned would be fine...

I would probably only start off with 4 snails, 2 of each at the beginning, as the ammount of snails and crabs you need will all depend on the algae level in the tank...

Also would 2 compact florescents be good for lighting? If not, what would be a good cheap alternative light that I could get.

If you not having corals in there yet, then any lighting will do, as its realy only there for your viewing pleasure....Compact Flou's will be fine, or some power compacts if you want to get some average lighting in there without going overboard on cost...
