10 Gallon Planted from the ground up

Yeah definitely need more plants really soon, I'm thinking of trying an order with Aquadise. Would Eco-Complete be suitable for dwarf corys you think or would it be too rough on their barbels? I'd also like to put maybe some neons in too, that is if I can find a good source. I think with enough plants I could get away with a small school of each.

Do you have any pet stores nearby like Petsmart or PetCO? Even those guys usually carry some stem plants to get you started. Anacharis, Hygrophila, Bacopa.

I have some rough gravel in my betta tank where the two cory's are, and one wears his barbels down, the other doesn't. They are equally healthy though, so I wouldn't worry about the eco-complete, as that is less jaggy than the gravel I'm referring to. Just watch the neons, it is possible that the betta will take offense at the coloration, hopefully not.

eugenet, have you had any problems with MTS's in your 29 gallon? Those snails reproduce faster than any other type I've kept. I think you may find that they will overrun a 10 gallon in no time. But if you haven't had any problems in your 29 gallon you may be alright.

I added a daughter plant from one of my apongeton hybrids this morning because it was looking a little droopy in the other tank, maybe because it has no bulb to draw nutrients from, I'm not sure. I may end up placing an online order today, the closet shop with plants is over an hour away :( You might be right about the neons, I might go with another small schooling fish instead, just haven't decided on what yet. Thanks for the info on your corys, I really have a soft spot for them and I hate to see some die from infected barbels. As far as my MTS, I ordered 15 off ebay which turned out to be 30 when they came in, although there were alot of really small ones. I stocked my 29 and 1st 10 gallon with them I also added some to my dads eclipse 5. They've been in for 4 or 5 months and just now I'm gonna need to remove a few of the bigger ones from my dads tank, I haven't had an overpopulation of them. Even if I do I plan to just donate some to my LFS or  I may sell the surplus on ebay myself :)

A betta may chase the neons occasionally but it shouldn't hassle them to the point of harm, though your mileage may vary.

I have a large school of cories in an Eco-Complete tank with no problems, all barbels are intact.

Thats good to know about the barbels, now if I can just find some Corydoras hastatus since Ive been wanting them for some time anyway. Just placed an order with mikeswetpets on ebay, ordered the following:

1 Anubias Nana
1 bunch of Corkscrew Val
1 2inch rooted square of Microsword
2 Radican Marble Swords

Might be next week before they come in, because I believe he has already shipped for this week. I've heard alot of good things about this seller and his shipping discount is a really good value. Fast response on sending me the invoice too. I cant wait for them to come in now
:dance2: :dance2: :dance2:

Anubias nana - good
corkscrew val - will get a little tall for a 10g tank but manageable
microsword - needs good light, switch to 15w bulbs minimum
radican marble - will get too big for a 10g tank

Thanks for that info, I was planning on going on up to 15 watt lights at least anyway, think thats enough or should I go to 20's? Was afraid the radican might be too big, now Im stumped what to do with it when it gets here, guess I may have to accelerate some DIY plans for a stronger light setup on my 29 :(

Danios are a perfect match for a betta, IMO. The only problem I had with keeping them together is the danios get so excited about eating that they crowd out the betta and he can't get to the food in time. I would distract the danios over to one side of the tank and feed the betta on the other.

I agree with everything phanmc said, save for the Radican Sword. True it could eventually get too big, but I've noticed that a couple of the outside leaves brown-out and you can keep it in-check without too much hassle. You may just start it in your 10 and if it goes bonkers move it to your 29.

Danios are ok, but personally I've outgrown them. They were great for cycling my first tropical tank, but have turned out to be pretty aggressive (esp. feeding time). I've only got one left in my lightly planted 10, and I'll catch her harrassing my pygmy cory and female guppy when she thinks they've found some chow. I think I'm a little bitter that the Danios gobbled up the better part of two clutches of guppy fry before I could isolate them. I would have gotten more to keep the last one company if they didn't have a habit (according to my LFS) of inexplicably fasting, then wasting away and dying. Oh well, just my two cents.
