10 gallon quarantine tank questions

Well, it's quite crude but I've got something running.

Slightly oversized lid but it gets the job done. Air stone, heater, timer for the light and a Fluval 70 HOB (well over triple times the filtration power for a 10 gallon) that I've stuffed with two floss pads straight from one of the 125's canisters (and replaced them with fresh ones to replenish what was taken) along with the bio ball bags and sponge block that was already in there.

Will give it a few days to a week so things stabilize and test the water to ensure as much, but it's almost time for the actual fun part of this hobby after literal months of preparation.

You need to either put the seeded filter back on your big tank or lightly dose ammonia so iBB doesn't die back before you get fish.
Tried that. All the extra HOBs I had were either too big to fit behind the wall or too small to reach over the rim properly. Was thinking of sprinkling some flake/pellet food in the tank to decompose if that would suffice?

I did that 1 time, it was a mess! Can you maybe hang a bag of the media in the big tank where the filter return flows? Or stick it back in the canister?

Would it just be better to get fish tomorrow at this point then to give the ammonia supply?

I keep a BN in each of my QT and fry tanks so that the bacteria doesn't go dormant and eventually die off. It's a tough fish and more or less harmless, and water changes are quick, down and dirty. If the quarantinees are rough or aggressive, I just take the BN out, put it in one of the other QT tanks, and put it back in when everybody is in their home tank.
