10 Gallon Tank

not very long. two fantails need at least 40 gallons. i'd give them about 3 or 4 months.

that they're going to be stunted pretty soon, of they're not already.

They stop growing. What you have is a pair of fish which need alot more space; most folks think goldfish are small because they manage to kill them off by putting them in the "goldfish bowl," and never really see their potential growth!! Read up on the fish, find out what the growth size is, space needs, etc--it'll surprise you. Look at those pretty Koi in the aquarium section--wouldn't a couple be nice in a huge ceramic planter on the back deck? Those guys get HUGE--over 2 feet; 24 inches. My dad has a pond full.

Example: If you live in a small apartment or house, without any places to go on long walks or run around for exercise, to have a large, active dog like a Dalmation, German Shepherd, Irish Setter, Labrador Retriever (you get the idea), soon you're going to have a very unhappy critter on your hands. Instead of stunted growth, you have "acting out" behaviors such as chewing your most expensive shoes and clothes--or favorites--they always know this. Chewing furniture, bedding, cords, pooping or peeing in the house, barking, inappropriate behaviors--a dog can show us its unhappiness much more in our faces than fish. They tend to just die.

So please, be an intelligent, caring human being and research your fish before you bring them home--fish have brains, however small, they feel physical pain, and they can become quite attached to their keepers.
That's my 2 pesetas worth.

Objections from the floor?

Those goldfish were suited for 10g when they were fry and maybe a few months tops. Not only do they need quite a bit of space per fish due to their size, they are also voracious and messy eaters (and along with that-big time excreters) If you cant move them out and into a much bigger space you might consider returning or trading them in for a small school of cardinal tetras and maybe some panda cories. Maybe rummynose tetras as well, but dont quote me on that. In either case NOT fantails. I have 3 in my koi pond (see sign.) becuase they outgrew their 29G in about 3 months after purchase and two years later are between 8 and 10" long (without the fan part). Next to the koi they look small but its a big pond. Now i think a 10G is 12" x 12" x 24" (its been along time) would you be happy in that comparable space? Some of the members here like 2 word responses or just to tag along and not explain why, i hope this has helped. Keep us posted on how you figure this out.
