10G Did API testing Am I In Trouble? :(

ahh ok note to self. Now as for the bioload I have now with the two angels, loaches, pleco and guppy, should I not add any more fish to the 75g? after the cycle is complete? cause when I switch them over today to the new tank with the old filter
won't that start the cycle over? or will I just have to maintain my amonia, nitrite and nitrate levels and keep doing WC's?

Move over the filter and fish to the 75 gallon. Then wait to see if you get any ammo, nitrite readings. If after a few weeks it's still 0, then you could definitely add more fish.

People are going to tell you that the loaches need a bigger tank, and while thats true, that's not going to be for a couple years IME.

Other than that did you have anything else in mind about what you wanted to add?

Great! Thanks a million everyone, I am starting to feel abit at ease with all of your great advice. My conerns were validated and you set me on the right path.
I just spoke with my LFS and they told me they have the Vistherms, he said for that size tank I should go with a 300watt and adjust it accordingly.
They also have the Python Gravel vacs Yippee! :D

you could use one 300w, most people in larger tanks have 2 heaters so that the water is heated more evenly and also in case of failure of one, the other can maintain the temp. Its up to you though. If you go to petsmart, you could print out online prices and try to price match to save you some cash. The pythons are expensive but worth every penny for a tank the size of your new one. Glad we could help :)

Well not yet, I would like to get some more color in the tank though, my kids are in love with Finding Nemo, but try explaining to a 4 and a 6 year old about Salt water and Fresh water fish. But daddy they all live in the water!!:thud:

At anyrate I would like to add more colorful fish, also fish that would get along with the fish I currently have. I do want to get a catfish like a glass catfish their beautiful, but I think they are on the agressive side.

When I'm ready I'll be asking you guys anyway, so any suggestions to have are more than welcome.

Heres a goofy question. Do our fish mate in captivity? Meaning will my fish have little fishies? When I do buy new fish, should I buy fish in pairs? and if so should I specify 1 male and 1 female?

Also since I now have two Angels and 2 loaches, but failed to ask what sex they are, is there any way to tell if they are male or female?

Thanks

TB

Tweedybird STOP!

you are jumping the gun you CAN"T add any fish till your tanks have been completely cycled. this may take another month.

You left out information that is needed in this thread from your first post.

Everyone here thinks that the 10g has already been cycled that you just over stocked the tank.

If I follow your time line correctly you have had this up and running with fish and turtle for less than 2 months with all of the live stock in it from day 1

I don't think moving your filter to the 75 will help you much on the cycling of that tank.

Did you put ammonia in the 75?

you can not not give us all the facts we will not be able to save your fish.

1. the ten gallon is way over stocked (given)

2. you need to post in this thread the stats on the 75 ph ammonia etc full test from your kit

3. we need to know what the filters for the 75 and the 10

First thing you need to for the 10 is do is a 50% water change NOW. you may have to do this 2x a day am and pm test after each one get some amo-lock to detox the water. Do a 50% PWC every time your test reads .25+ ammonia

get back to us in this thread don't start another one.

The larger 75 gal tank will give him greater stability since he is in a fishy cycle....as long as they maintain the water changes to keep ammonia and nitrites below .25, they will be okay.

Ok lets call this day 1 of the Fishy Cycle Saturday Feb 16 2008
I'm taking readings now Of the new 75G
I have the Ehiem 2217 up and running, some old gravel from the 10G by the Intake, and some plants in the tank as of now.

Readings are:

(Getting to be an expert at these tests lately. :headbang2:

Amonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm

Heaters are also in place 2 200watt visi - therms
both set at 78 degrees
