10g dwarf seahorse tank

Ah ok I see. Also I found that I do have a fluorescent fixture so I will find lights in the range you mentioned and also learn a bit about the macros you mentioned. I just found a 6 foot 8 bulb fixture for my 125g salt tank for 75 bucks so that would have gone to start cycling the dwarf tank bit I can't pass that deal up.

Keep an eye out for more questions as I research XD

If you start looking for a source for them check out reefcleaners and reefs2go both have a decent selection.

Thank you. I was going to end up asking that anyway because I still don't know about all the great resources we have in this hobby (and am very distrustful of new sites I don't know for some reason) so I'm glad you covered it XD

I really hope this fixture is the right thing. He doesn't know if it is T5 or T8 or anything. He just knows it is an 8 bulb fixture and he paid over $500 for it as recommended by a fish store for his reef so hopefully it is what I need but there's just no way to pass that deal up at $75 in perfect working condition (I saw pics and it comes with bulbs and is ready to rock)

I have heard that seahorse and octopus were very sensitive to try to keep and don't fare well in an aquarium. Does anyone know for sure?

Nepherael would you keep a log of what you do to make this work for you as I would like to try the same? I am willing to wait until you get all the bugs worked out. Thanks .

Absolutely I will use this thread as that then =) I don't know much about octopi but I know that people keep dwarf seahorses in as small as 2 gallon tanks and do just fine. I've heard that seahorses are sensitive and can develop issues with their pouches but besides that they do well in aquaria. This is just what I've heard so anyone can feel free to chime in

Yeah seahorses should be good in the aquarium setting. I actually went to a large seahorse farm in Hawaii a while back very neat how they breed them and everything in captivity.

Seahorses can be pretty sensitive to water conditions, and if breeding they're susceptible to a few illnesses. But they're not super difficult to keep. Now sea dragons are near impossible to keep in home aquaria they're closely related to sea horses.

Octopus's are difficult but not impossible to keep, the right tank setup is important, they're escape artists tight secured top, escape proof plumbing is needed. Most kept octo's are dwarf varieties with lifespans of 12-18 months, some species are very cryptic and you may not see them much at all, also have to do alot of tank cleaning any snail, crab or shrimp CUC become tasty treats.

Octopus are something I wouldn't mind trying to keep some day, think about everytime I see them at one of the LFS. One store even had a Blue Ring awhile back for $50(wouldn't want that one)

I've heard debate on whether the Blue Ring is truly poisonous in the aquarium setting. Of course no one wants to test that theory so...

Personally id try squid again before octopus. Less issues of escape and similar intelligent interactions. Their lifespan issue is a bit of a pain though.

But yeah, as long as the tank is treated as a maximum security prison octopus aren't bad.
