update as promised, these pictures were taken 1 week after start up:
my camera is not taking the pictures in the right light setting hence the extreme blueness, ill remember to fix that next time...

here is my paludarium as of a few minutes ago 
this is HC which i rescued from the wake of my destruction a few months back. i was growing my sickly HC immersed in an attempt to rejuvenate it. it was going fine for months. i started out with a small clump of the stuff and spread it about a 5 gal. pretty soon i had a solid carpet in most areas. i wanted to speed things up so i put it outside in the sun and everything cooked, except this little guy. nows hes grown to twice the size he was in under a week...
the hardscape greatly improves

the betta and the fish are long term temporaries
