Thanks to all....
I cut the trim at a 45 degree angles then glued it on-edge. I also put a 1/4 inch thick strip on the back for additional support. Then I cut the triangles for the ends & re-enforced with more 1/4 inch strips (see image); I couldn't use just one strip on the back, because trim has a recess for adhesive that wouldn't allow for it.
The for easy measure I drilled at the point the seams came together (even though it was a perfect fit) for the knobs.
