What about some shrimp? You would have to find some big enough that your honey gouramis didn't eat them, but I think that could be done.

Is there another small bottom feeder I can get? The dwarf cories I have found are pretty expensive.

If you wait a while, but you could get otos, they can be delicate...

Ghost shrimp are a possibility depending on how the gourami treats them

Well they already have ember tetra, so they don't need the glowlight tetras. Also, they have a pair of honey sunset gouramis, so that rules out the betta. Plus, my experience with bettas and ghost shrimp is the shrimp make a snack for the betta...

That's not true because I have a bunch of ghost shrimp with my betta he just looks at them and goes on about his day.

Not much you can really do with that size tank...wouldn't bother unless its a quarantine tank or for raising some fry

Im in no way trying to be rude- but its anecdotal not to be taken as a norm. There seems to be a pretty high occurrence of bettas eating or harassing shrimp, at least from what I have read.
But could ottos work as a small bottom dweller?

I already had two different bettas with my ghost shrimp and they didn't do nothing to the shrimp. No ottos need at least 20 gallons.

Shrimp with a betta will either work or wont. It depends on the betta. Ottos need constant supply of either algae or fresh vegetables.
